I: Programming

On Location at the Umpqua Discovery Center

The Umpqua Discovery Center is able to provide the following programming for interested schools. Pre-visit and post-visit curriculum is also available upon request. The Center can provide programming for a maximum of 50 students at one time. Each program is an average of 25 minutes.
Admission cost / program:

25 or more students
under Age 6 - $1.50
Age 6 - 17 - $3.00
over Age 17 - $7.00
1 Teachers Free per 25 students

24 or less students-
under Age 6 - $2.00
Age 6 - 17 - $4.50
over Age 17 - $8.50
$7.50 adult/chaperone

Outreach Program

The Umpqua Discovery Center is now providing Outreach Programs at individual school sites. Outreach Programs feature active learning tools, slide shows, costumes, animal biofacts and games. They help students develop observation and awareness skills in both history and science. Before each program, you will receive information and pre and post visit activities to share with your students.
Audience:
The Discovery Center programs are aimed at classes with a maximum of 30 students, and will last approximately 45 minutes. Grades 2-6 are targeted area, but adjustments can be made for other age groups.
Fees:
The first program presentation will cost your school $75 plus mileage from Reedsport. Each subsequent class presentation will cost $50 for each presentation. If you are paying by check or by cash please have the exact amount available to give to The Discovery Center staff at the time of the program. If you will be billed or have special requests, please make us aware of this beforehand.

II: Oregon Curriculum Content Standards


Upon request, lesson plans will be sent to you where each pre-visit lesson plan, post-visit lesson plan, and Center presentation has a grade level noted for which it is intended. This can be adjusted if the content is something that would work better for you at a different grade level. Objectives are also noted. We have also included the Oregon Curriculum Content Standards that each experience addresses.


 

III. Outdoor Experiences


The Umpqua Discovery Center can organize visits to the following areas in coordination with your visit to the Center. This visit would include information/education about the site visited. These are off-site and you are responsible for transportation and any additional admission fees. Each presentation is between 1½ and 2 hours in length.

The Umpqua Lighthouse (extra fee paid directly to the Lighthouse)
